Should college atheltes be paid?

There are many reason why college athletes should be paid but people have many reasons why they shouldn't. There are multiple opinions on pros and cons of why they should. To me college athletes should be paid coming from a athlete because thy are almost working then any other person in the college and are suffering there body through all the damage and pain they are going through. Another reason is because they put all there time into sports and don't have time for a job. By having colleges have athletes brings in money for the school by the apparel and tickets. By not having sports would bring the college less money. So there for they athletes should be paid.

Pro:

College athletes put there body on the line each and every game.
  • The athletes are sacrificing their bodies and physical health at a chance to play a game they love, and possibly make it to the professional level. They also could suffer injury's that cou8ld paralyze them and have career ending injury's.
Athletes bring allot of money
  • Big amounts of money are being made through out tournaments for example the march madness and none of the money goes to the athletes and they run and the stars of tit.
Paying athletes begin there financial awareness
  • school could also help these students build a foundation of financial literacy. This would allow them to introduce these students to financial investors who had their best interests in mind. Players  blamed poor investments, trusting unethical financial advisors and lavish spending habits as the reason for their money troubles. for example 60% of NBA player go broke after 5 years

Con:

Already receive scholarships
  • Many people say that they are already special because they have there tuition and room and board are already paid for them. Some athletes already have there books and other basic needs paid for too. This has the athletes already easier all together including financially.
Detract from the purity of the game
  •  fans say at the collegiate level sports because they believe the players at this level play with more passion and love of the sport than athletes at the professional level. There are some who say professional athletes do not play as hard because they have already made it to the highest level, and they do not want to risk injury if a game is not for a national championship. This could cause the athletes to be less motivated to play.
Too difficult

Athletes  Role Models

Athletes have many responsibility's to be a role model on and off the court, field. Some people have different opinions on  if athletes are role models or not. Professionals can not be the only role models. Youth athletes can be role models for younger youth athletes.  Many professional athletes unfortunately have made news by getting in trouble with the law or with drugs. Athletes are arrested for assault, illegal drugs, drunk driving, and other offenses. This can be the game changer for the role models for youth athletes.

Role Model-

  • LeBron James
  • Peyton Manning
  • Eli Manning
  • Tim Tebow
  • Walter Peyton
  • Rodger federer
  • Andrew Luck

Bad Role Models-

  • Ray Rice- Domestic Violence
  • Adrian Peterson- Domestic Violence
  • Tiger Woods-multiple extramarital affairs.
  • Michal Vick- Dog fighting ring

Sport Sociologist-

Gary Sailes notes that professional athletes are often thrust into their public position with little preparation, and that being a highly paid athlete carries its own set of problems. “There are people in our society who stalk, bait, or victimize professional athletes for financial or professional gain. Men pick fights; women they have sex with get pregnant intentionally; and news reporters goad them into brawls. Their wealth and star status make them prime targets. The pressure to perform exerted by their teammates, coaches, owners and fans is unrelenting.” On top of all this, Sailes notes, Americans expect athletes “to personify all that is good in us, our community, our society, and what is traditionally American.” He concludes that athletes are role models, but perhaps those who avidly watch their actions on the playing field or court should be more understanding that they are as human as the rest of us.
